St Ives Show 2014

St Ives Agricultural Show (Show) was held last weekend (18th May and 19th May 2014).

The Craft section of the Show now has many glass display cabinets so you can all be guaranteed that your pieces will be displayed well and are away from dust and dirt.

Entries for the Show are done on line around the end of April so you need to do this via the internet to print off two forms (exhibitors and office copy). These forms are used for entry and collection.   Should you enter into this competition please keep the receipt and exhibitors copy to collect your entries.

Only two entries were allowed per person.

I entered two pieces in the Open Category H4 and won 1st and 2nd prize.

St Ives Show 2013

This year I decided to enter a piece in the St Ives Show.  It was very well organised and the Arts & Crafts showed exquisite works.  I was lucky enough to win first prize in the open category.

I left one of our flyers beside my work to advertise the Guild and I had enquiries from the doll group to talk about tatting at one of their group meetings in the future.

May 2013 Meeting

We had a new visitor attend today, Josephine, who was learning how to tat and was going very well.

After the Spring tatting exchange with Denmark and Canada at the end of June 2013 we are thinking of starting a continuous doily.  This means that each person takes the doily and adds a row either following the pattern or follows a pattern of their choice. The last person to put on the last row gets the doily! This was suggested by Judith Merlin and sounds like a bit of fun. Below is an example of a continuous doily that Judith was lucky enough to receive.

It was lovely to have Mavis visit us today, even though she is not faring very well at the moment.

Happy tatting day for all.

March 2013 meeting

We were delighted having the chance of a closed look of some of the winning pieces of tatting presented at the Castle Hill Show 2013. We congratulated once more to Bev for her achievement as Grand Champion this year.

We had welcome three new members to the guild Naomi, Ann and Marie; we hope they will enjoy tatting as much as we do.

We also had a wonderful display of tatting pieces donated to the guild by Mavis, as well as some patterns and displays of with ideas for Easter and Mother’s Day.

Members had fun interacting with the public demonstrating tatting at the Castle Hill Show 2013.  We had enquiries from schools and individuals so we are looking forward to being able to share our craft with others.  Thank you so much to all the ladies who volunteered to make this weekend a success!

February 2013 meeting

There was a great buzz in the camp at our recent meeting as Judy Locke’s family has kindly donated a huge amount of craft materials including lots of tatting/crochet cottons and shuttles.  We were all like “kids in the lolly shop” ferreting through all the boxes.

Our library also benefited from receiving a historic tatting dictionary as well as many other welcomed editions of books some of which will be shared with our Newcastle branch.

In addition, we also donated quite a few boxes of Turkish cottons to the ladies in the Lace Study Centre at the Power House museum and the remainder of craft items to Crowle Home (Achieve).

There was something for everyone so I hope you all managed to bag a bargain.

The Tatters’ Guild would like to thank Judy Locke’s family for their kind donation! Thank you for thinking of us. From the sale of goods we managed to raise over $300 for the Guild.

For those who weren’t able to attend our February 2013 meeting there will still be lots of cottons and shuttles to choose from when you next attend.

We had a lovely visitor – Ann, an experienced tatter, visit us for the first time and show us her accomplishments.  Ann has completed some lovely pieces and was welcomed by all members.

Shirley looking for volunteers for Darling Harbour exhibition 2013

The Darling Harbour Craft and Quilt Fair will be on around the long weekend in June 2013 so if you are able to volunteer to demonstrate tatting we would appreciate members assistance.  Would you kindly get in touch with Shirley, Show Director, if you are able to volunteer.

Tatting in May

This month Fairlie has a pair of socks from the Piecework Magazine to show us and a visitor Anne had her beautiful needle lace on show.
